Portable document scanners that ahead of the curve

I first published this article on Article Base and want to publish it here also. I hope it is helpful for anyone looking for a mobile document or photo scanner.
The Two most innovative mobile scanners for the year:  The Flip Pal and the Vupoint Magic Wand Scanner.
Buying a scanner is one of the smartest things you will ever do. If you have any type of paperwork, pictures, documents or receipts you would like to keep safe you will have to get a scanner. The first question you will ask once you consider buying a scanner will be regarding how to buy the right one.
Buying a scanner can be made easy by just take a look at a few web sites and a few options on line. There is no need to let things get so complicated even though there are several scanners on the market and new ones popping up everyday. Why? Because the truth is that their are only a few that will really do the job for you.
Buying a Scanner made simple.
1. Do you want a portable scanner that you can take with you anywhere, make scans with out being tethered to the computer and have the scanner run fully on batteries?
2. Do you want to buy a scanner that is not really mobile but it is small enough to move from place to place but is not capable of making scans unless it is hooked up to the computer?
3. Do you have lots of old photos you would like to scan quickly and easily that are the standard size such as a 4×6 print?
4. Do you want to buy a scanner that is less than $200, less that $150, less than $100? Or can you afford to spend close to $400 to make sure you get the exact scanner that is right for you?
Now that you have answered these questions you will need to do a little more research. This is the most important part of buying a scanner in order to ensure you do not make a purchase that will prove to be no help in organizing and eliminating your piles of paper work.
Here are the best options for you.
The Flip-pal Mobile Scanner is the most versatile of all scanners, can scan small or large objects, can be run on batteries, can use USB stick to store scans for later transfer to the computer. You will not be disappointed when buying this scanner because it has so many uses. It can scan pictures in the frame and still no the wall. It also needs no connection to the computer to make scans.
It is a very small device but the powerful stitching software allows you to piece together two or more smaller scans to create a large seamless document. It is pretty cool.
Another option when buying a scanner that is truly mobile is the Vupoint Magic Wand Scanner.  This is the smallest of all the devices but it easily scans full size sheets of paper and scan scan longer items but not wider items.  You use the Magic Wand just as you might guess.  You wave the scanner or sweep it over the document to be scanned the scan is saved to the micro disk.  It is great for scanning pages out of books, magazines and receipts and operates fully on batteries with no need to be attached to a computer to make scans.  This scanner is perfect for taking with you in the car or on a business trip.
Vupoint Magic Wand Scanner
The Vupoint Magic Wand Scanner is also now available with Wireless Blue Tooth Capacity so transferring scans to your computer could not be any easier.   It is the best price of all the scanners on the market today as well.  You can buy a scanner from Vupoint that is the basic model for under $90 in many locations.  I have had a Vupoint Scanner for over year and I love it.  It is a great deal for the money.

Flip Pal Portable Scanner Featured in Northern Colorado Business Report

The buzz about the Flip Pal Portable Scanner has been gradually picking up steam over the past year.  The portable scanning market has been open for the taking for a truly mobile scanner.  Gordon Nuttall, a former HP employee, launched what appears to be a smash hit for the Rocky Mountain Ventures in July 2010.  The team under Nuttall, now CEO, has brought years of experience to the table they have set out to dominate the portable scanning market with the amazing Flip Pal Scanner.

The company has not taken any chances with the rights to there idea, revealed in the Northern Colorado Business Report story. See the full story here

"The convertible scanner, with two U.S. patents issued and four pending, uses secure digital memory cards - the same as those used in digital cameras - to store scanned items and to hold application-specific software. Nuttall envisions the portable Flip-Pal taking the scrap booking sector by storm, allowing photo scans of items already affixed in a book or frame"

"Nuttall knows his way around a scanner. For much of his more than 30 years at HP he worked as a lead designer in the digital imaging products division. Nuttall kept improving scanner technology but noticed that there was a computer involved."

The Flip Pal Portable Scanner addressed the computer issue by making the mini scanner a stand alone device with the micro disk storing the scans to load on a PC anytime.  If you Bring a few micro disks and you will have plenty of copying power.

The Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner Wins Overall Best Innovation award at the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) trade show July 30

From Rocky Mountain Ventures Social Media Release Site.

08.24.2010– The Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner, produced by the Rocky Mountain Ventures Company, won the Overall Best Innovation award at the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA) trade show July 30. The Ft. Collins based company was one of more than 260 exhibitors at the Craft SuperShow held in Chicago, IL.

The Flip-Pal mobile scanner has been under development since September of 2009 and was formally introduced to the North American market as well as to more than 8,000 consumers who attended the CHA event. The Craft & Hobby Association is an international trade association for the $27 billion craft and hobby industry. Members include companies engaged in the design, manufacture, distribution and retail sales of related products.

The Flip-Pal makes it possible to scan photos, images in books and magazines, and similar works of art anywhere, any time with no connection to a computer. The resulting digital files can then be stored and shared. The battery powered flatbed scanner is about the size of a typical netbook computer.

The patented "flip-and-scan" technology allows the hinged cover to be removed and the scanner placed face down on top of a old family album, for instance, without having to remove pictures that might be fragile or glued down. The included stitching software enables users to reassemble multiple 4x6 inch scans later into a larger image on their computer.

Scanned JPEG images are saved immediately to an SD memory card that can be read by any computer. Batteries, a 2 GB SD card and a USB to SD adaptor are included with each unit. Early sales orders for the $149.99 scanner can be placed online now at www.flip-pal.com.

Melissa McKee of Golden, CO saw a demonstration of the Flip-Pal scanner and wanted to use it to create a digital archive of scrapbooks she has already made. "I'm excited about this because I have a fear of losing my fabulous scrapbook pages to theft, fire, or water damage." she said. "I haven't lost anything yet, but it's only a matter of time, right?" Another visitor said she wished she had owned a Flip-Pal to copy old family photos that her relatives had brought to a recent family reunion.

The citation at CHA is the second innovation award in less than a year for the Rocky Mountain Ventures Company. In November, 2009, the scanner was awarded Consumer Product of the Year at the Colorado Inventor Showcase in Denver, hosted by the DaVinci Institute.

What People are Saying about the Flip Pal Mobile Scanner

A few reviews by new owners of the Flip-Pal
  • I got my flip-pal scanner last week in the first shipment of this wonderful new product! I have been using it this week while on a visit to out of state family. I have been able to scan over 100 of old, old family photos in less than an hour while they were still in the frames and matting! It is so fast and easy I could not believe it. The scanner is light and portable and fits easily in my airline carry on. This scanner has allowed me to save and share family photos that would otherwise be lost to most of the family. I am thrilled with this product that can also perform normal scanning and can scan 3D items too.

  • The Flip-Pal has a little screen that lets you see that you got a good scan. The wand type doesn't and lets you go home thinking you have a load of material only to find that much of it is bad.

  • The Flip-Pal scans every time, just like a big scanner. The wand type sometimes has to be             used several times just to get one to work.  I found the wand frustrating and have found the Flip-Pal a joy.  And it has all those other uses, too. And Pictures that aren't distorted. I'm quitting. I would be here all night telling you how great it is.

  • The "stitch" feature is amazing. By making several scans of a large photo, the easy to use program "stitches" them together seamlessly. It helps to leave a good size border around the multiple scans so it makes a crisp edge on the final picture. I will watch to see if this company makes any other products in the future because this one is amazing.

Everyone Loves the Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner
Everyone loves the new Flip-Pal or The Flip as it is referred to often on the company website.  The Flip Pal is astonishing people with is proprietary "stitching" software that takes several scans of a photo and will instantly splice them together to make one fully integrated picture.  The Flip Pal conquered the biggest hurdle in the mini scanner business with this software.  Prior to this there was no way to get around the fact that a scanner needed to be a magic wand type such as the Vupoint Magic Wand Scanner or you need a full size flat bed to scan anything  that could not be fed into an automatic document feeder such as the TryNeat products like Neatreceipts and NeatDesk.

I am definitely am sold on the Flip Pal Mobile scanner.  It is taking the scanning world by storm.
