Important Flip-Pal Questions Answered

Is Flip Pal Capable of scanning slides or negatives?

The Flip-Pal is not designed to scan negatives or slides, which would require a separate light source in the lid, increasing costs and complexity. What is needed for scanning slides is a  dedicated film scanner rather than Flip-Pal, but these film scanners are extremely expensive.

You can get your slides scanned or processed  at the local photo processing shop or you can find companies with these capabilities online. 

Is there a display screen that shows the scan in progress?

Yes.  There is a small LCD display on the top of the scanner that allows you to see what you are scanning.  Also the Flip and Scan technology allows you to see through the scanner so you can view what you are scanning throughout the process.

(MONEY Magazine) -- After 31 years with Hewlett-Packard, Gordon Nuttall was just one year shy of earning full retirement benefits when he was laid off in October 2008. "It was a bit of a surprise," says Nuttall, who'd worked as a software program manager. "And management wasn't willing to make an exception for me."
Not ready to retreat from the workforce anyway, Nuttall began searching for a position like the one he'd had. What he found was a saturated job market.
"Because I was networking so much, I could see there was a wealth of talent available -- people who were downsized or had decided against retirement because their 401(k) had shrunk to a 201(k)," he says.

After discovering kinship with a group of five other tech castoffs, however, he became convinced that together they could form a blockbuster startup team.
Nuttall, who'd been part of a group that launched several lines of business within HP (HPQ, Fortune 500), began tossing around product ideas.
The six settled on one they found particularly promising: a portable, battery-operated scanner that could store images on a flash memory card.
The technology for such a device already existed. So did the audience, they figured: Scrapbooking hobbyists -- a universe of at least 17 million -- would be likely to want such a scanner, since it would allow them to digitize photos and heirlooms when away from a home computer.
Nuttall and one of his partners worked up a business plan. Another member of the team, an expert in supply chains, arranged for them to visit manufacturers in Asia.
In January 2010, Couragent -- a name reflecting the founders' shared spunk --officially launched. By October, they introduced the Flip-Pal scanner, at a retail price of $150.
At first, Flip-Pal was sold only over its own website, but after Nuttall sent a sample to Amazon.com, the online giant agreed to carry it.
In November a segment on the Home Shopping Network resulted in sales of about 700 devices. "The network's fulfillment partner ran out of product!" says Nuttall, who is CEO. Fortunately, Couragent's staff -- one other full-timer and 24 independent contractors -- had prepared for the possibility, making sure the company had extra inventory ready to go.
This year Nuttall expects revenue to hit $2.5 million. He'll take home about $16,000, a fraction of his previous $170,000 salary. But in five years, he envisions matching his prior pay, while running a $16 million company with five products. (Couragent just announced a commercial version of Flip-Pal designed to scan full-page documents.)
"We're doing interesting work in a creative environment," says Nuttall, who owns 26% of the company. "This is exactly what I was looking for.

The Flip Pal is definitely innovative and revolutionary.  It is perfect for old photos and for scanning large items while taking advantage of the stitching software that allows you to "stitch" multiple scans from sections of a large document and put them all back together in one complete entry.  It is very effective. 

If you are in business and do more scanning of receipts, invoices and monthly paper work the advantage over the Flip Pal would be NeatReceipts and the NeatDesk from theNeat company.  Both are great products but the built in keyword searchable computer software called NeatWorks really is set up to organize your business life in the easiest most effective way possible. 

If you are a student or need to scan reference materials and notes on the go or in the library you will want to consider the Vupoint Magic Wand Scanner.   This is so different from any scanner ever and it make you the actually scanner.  You wabe the magic wand over the doucment and it is stored on a micro disk.  It runs on batteries and it is easily plugs in for uploading with a USB Cable.

The Flip Pal Portable Scanner had so many benefits for scrap bookers or office managers that it is hard to think of one draw back for the Scanner.  The only thing that would be an obstacle would be the fact that it does not have an automated document feeder or ADF.  The ADF allows you to put a stack of papers into the tray and have them scanned automatically one by one as they go through machine.  The Flip Pal has plenty of advantages but if you have larger volumes of paper to organize you will be better keeping the flip pal for unique applications and getting a NeatDesk with ADF.

The Neatdesk is not nearly as portable as The Flip Pal so they both are used in different applications.  You can scan a photo while it is still on the wall with the Flip Pal or scan pages right out of a book.  But the NeatDesk is strictly a desktop scanner.  So if you have it in your budget and you love to transfer your records, pictures and files on the computer you might want to have a Flip Pal and a Neatdesk.

Flip Pal Portable Scanner Featured in Northern Colorado Business Report

When it is time for a new scanner you definitely need to check out the latest portable scanners on the market.  Portable scanner technology has really taken giant leaps forward in the past few years.  You should be able to save your self plenty of time with your new mobile or portable scanner. 

There are a few front runners in the portable scanner field but they all do a little something different.  Investigating the top scanners on the market will be a very fruitful endeavor.  You can get an awesome portable scanner for less than $100.
