A Scanner for scanning everything: NeatDesk versus ScanSnap Amazon Reviews show clear winner in Fujitsu

Here is the scoop on the scanners using NeatWorks that is created by the Neat Company and run on both of the NeatDesk and the Neat Receipts.  The ratings by Amazon.com customers are very poor for the Neat Company scanners and their service.  In general comparison to Fujitsu products, the Neat line of scanners does not hold up when put to the test against the Scan Snap 1500.

I was surprised to see the so many customer reviews for Neat Co that were so negative.  Many of the comments are highly critical of the NeatWorks software with the slow speed being a common theme.  The Fujitsu Scan snap on the other hand gets nearly 99% positive reviews with virtual none of the monster marketing campaign run by the Neat Company.  It is looking like the Neat Company has spent too much money on marketing and not enough money on research and development.  They should at least make sure that the new software can be downloaded properly in order to run their scanners.

Here is part of the article from ascanner.org that put out the argument that try neat may be a nice catch phrase but the scanners are not keeping pace with marketing claims.
The Fujitsu Scan Snap has 184 ratings and 146 of them are 5 stars and 32 are 4 stars. There are only 6 total ratings at 3 stars or less. It is a fantastic number for Fujitsu and it makes the Neat Company numbers look very poor.

The NeatDesk has a terrible rating in the Amazon customer reviews. They have 97 ratings of 1 star and 135 ratings of 3 stars or less out of 256 total customer reviews. My eyes opened wide when I looked at this number because I could not believe how bad it was after all the hype and expense Neat Company has gone to with their advertising and marketing campaign. They only show 69 ratings of 5 stars which is a very low percentage compared to the Scan Snap 1500.

The Fujitsu Scan Snap 1500 has nearly 80% of their ratings at 5 stars and close to 99% ratings of 4 and 5 stars. The Neat Desk just does not add up in comparison. The numbers for the Neat Desk in comparison are 27% ratings of 5 stars and 47% ratings of 4 and 5 stars combined.

Wow! This really is a compelling number when you compare it to the Scan Snap. Fujitsu has nearly 3 times more ratings of 4 stars and over twice as many 4 and 5 star ratings as the Neat Desk.

I have had some questions about the Neat Company software and questioned its slow speed and reliability but did not realize the ratings from Amazon customers were so low. The feedback also mentions poor software over and over. My question then becomes what is the scanner if the software does not live up to expectations? The software is what made the Neat Desk unique and attractive.

Important Flip-Pal Questions Answered

The Flip-Pal is not designed to scan negatives or slides, which would require a separate light source in the lid, increasing costs and complexity. What is needed for scanning slides is a  dedicated film scanner rather than Flip-Pal, but these film scanners are extremely expensive.

You can get your slides scanned or processed  at the local photo processing shop or you can find companies with these capabilities online.

Yes.  There is a small LCD display on the top of the scanner that allows you to see what you are scanning.  Also the Flip and Scan technology allows you to see through the scanner so you can view what you are scanning throughout the process.

The Flip-Pal scanner in the testing sample made over 100,000 scans without failure.
